The Washington Post collected information from companies; law and lobby firms; banks and credit unions; and nonprofit organizations based in or with major operations in the District, Virginia and Maryland to determine which firms should qualify. Only companies that reported at least $150 million in 2012 revenue were included in the Post 200.
