Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS), one of the nation’s largest booksellers and the leading retailer of content, digital media and educational products, today announced the regional winner of the Discovery Friday $1,000 Shopping Spree Sweepstakes – Charlotte Thomas from Columbia, SC. The sweepstakes was part of Discovery Friday, a national event that took place in Barnes & Noble stores nationwide on November 22. The event officially launched the holiday shopping season at Barnes & Noble and gave customers the opportunity to discover the perfect gifts for friends and family with help from expert booksellers. Customers who visited the NOOK
® counter on Discovery Friday could enter for a chance to win a $1,000 Barnes & Noble shopping spree, with five lucky winners to be chosen from across the country. To further celebrate the winners and the spirit of the holiday season, Barnes & Noble is also donating $1,000 worth of books to each winner’s organization of choice.
Regional winner Charlotte Thomas visited her local Barnes & Noble store on Discovery Friday to get an early start on her holiday shopping for her eight grandchildren, who she proudly says are all avid readers. Charlotte approached the NOOK counter and entered the Discovery Friday $1,000 Barnes & Noble Shopping Spree, never dreaming she would actually win. When she found out she was the regional winner of the Discovery Friday Sweepstakes, she was extremely excited, and immediately thought of what she would purchase with her newly awarded $1,000 Barnes & Noble Gift Card.
“My grandchildren, who all love to read, will benefit from this prize the most,” said Charlotte. “I also plan to upgrade my husband’s NOOK 1
™ to a brand new NOOK
® HD+, thanks to Barnes & Noble.”
Barnes & Noble is also donating an additional $1,000 worth of books to Charlotte’s local organization of choice, the Early Learning Center at St. Michael and All Angels’ Episcopal Church in Columbia.
