Compañía de Minas Buenaventura S.A.A. (“Buenaventura”) (NYSE: BVN; Lima Stock Exchange: BUE.LM), Peru’s largest publicly traded precious metals mining company announced today that Uchucchacua’s worker and contractor unions initiated a strike on December 4, 2013.
The purpose of the strike is to seek the restatement of 12 workers terminated for serious misconduct against labor law. While Buenaventura fully respects labor and union workers’ rights, it has strict guidelines regarding workers who have violated the law.
The Peruvian Ministry of Labor has denied the proceeding of the strike at this time.
