Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair Visits Centro Universitario Ritter

BALTIMORE, Dec. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Tony Blair, former prime minister of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, visited Centro Universitario Ritter dos Reis's Porto Alegre campus today. In a speech before UniRitter students, faculty and local business leaders, Mr. Blair drew on his experience as prime minister to provide insights on leadership and the future of global business and politics. Mr. Blair's remarks were broadcast to nearly 11,000 UniRitter students.

In his remarks, Mr. Blair spoke about the increasingly interconnected world, the fast pace of change and the need for governments to be more innovative and collaborative.  "Quality education is the most important investment a government and society can make today," said Mr. Blair.  "I am very optimistic that our world's problems will be solved by public private partnerships and by a younger generation who are more connected and collaborative than ever."

"UniRitter is a wonderful institution, and we are thrilled Mr. Blair made a special trip to Porto Alegre," said Douglas L. Becker, chairman and chief executive officer of Laureate Education, Inc.  "Each and every time Mr. Blair visits a Laureate institution, our students are inspired and challenged to do something remarkable with their lives."

Founded in 1971, UniRitter has two campuses in southern Brazil and has been recognized as one of the top private higher education institutions in the country. On Monday, UniRitter was awarded a 4 (out of 5) rating on the General Index of Courses (IGC) by the Brazilian Ministry of Education in recognition of UniRitter's exceptional academic and operational quality.

Mr. Blair has spoken at six other Laureate universities: Universidade Anhembi Morumbi in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Universidad Peruana de Ciencias in Lima, Peru; BiTS University of Applied Sciences in Iserlohn, Germany; Universidad Europea in Madrid, Spain; Istanbul Bilgi University in Turkey, and Universidad del Valle de Mexico in Coyoacan, Mexico.
