PharMerica Corporation (NYSE:PMC), a leading institutional pharmacy, specialty infusion and hospital services company servicing healthcare facilities in the United States, today announced that it has been certified by Surescripts to receive controlled and non-controlled substance prescription orders electronically. PharMerica’s e-prescribing solution is the most user friendly, accessible and open e-prescribing solution in the long-term care pharmacy industry.
PharMerica’s e-prescribing service will allow physicians to electronically send prescriptions to any PharMerica pharmacy nationwide, using the same computer software in their offices today. Physicians will require no additional training or new hardware to submit electronic prescriptions to PharMerica. Physician’s using the e-prescribing service will substantially reduce the time it takes for patients to receive their medication while streamlining a previously manual, paper-based process. In addition to improving health outcomes, e-prescribing streamlines the process for complying with Drug Enforcement Administration policies for dispensing controlled substances in the long-term care setting.
Greg Weishar, PharMerica Corporation’s Chief Executive Officer, said, “We are confident that bringing pharmacy industry standards to the long-term care industry will lead to faster rates of adoption. The Surescripts’ network is convenient, efficient and economical for the physician community. Surescripts, the nation’s largest clinical health information network, will allow us to better serve all trading partners in our collective pursuit of delivering outstanding pharmacy service and quality patient care.”
