In September 2014, Orion will complete its first high orbital mission. EFT-1 will launch an uncrewed spacecraft from NASA's Kennedy Space Center 3,600 miles beyond low Earth orbit. On the same day, Orion will return to Earth at a speed of approximately 20,000 mph for a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean.
