Strong-MDI, a Ballantyne Strong, Inc. company (NYSE MKT: BTN), announced today the introduction of PREMIUM HGA, a leading edge screen equipped with the new exclusive HI-GAIN coating technology at ShowEast 2013 being held in Hollywood, FL from October 21-24, 2013.
The PREMIUM HGA screen will provide a superior viewing experience on large format screens by significantly decreasing the infamous hotspot effect and increasing overall brightness across the entire screen surface. The greater gain of PREMIUM HGA means a higher reflectivity of light, which results in an overall brighter image without the trade-off of significantly decreasing the viewing angle of the screen. This proprietary technology gives the new 2.9 gain silver screen a generous HGA (half gain angle) of 25°, allowing large format screens to have this level of high gain without compromising the optimal viewing angle. PREMIUM HGA’s higher performance will be applicable to both 2D and 3D presentations.
“PREMIUM HGA is a significant advancement in large screen technology that provides an impressively bright screen with wider viewing angles than any other silver screen on the market,” said Chris Stark, Chief Operating Officer of Ballantyne Strong. “We are pleased to be the exclusive provider of the new HI-GAIN coating technology, which enables the PREMIUM HGA screen to both increase brightness and broaden the angular distribution of light. Francois Barrette and his team at Strong-MDI have done an outstanding job in developing a product that delivers a superior experience for the movie going public. With the PREMIUM HGA screen, larger format screens will now be able to have higher gain and brighter images, while decreasing the hotspot effect.”
One of the first installations of the PREMIUM HGA screen occurred at Carmike Cinema’s “BigD Theatre” in Columbus, Georgia. David Pfegl, Director of Services for Carmike Cinemas, said, “The PREMIUM HGA screen has taken the premium movie going experience we can offer to our customers to another level. The brighter screen and wider viewing angles are a substantial improvement over previous screen formats and clearly positions the Carmike as one of the best premium auditoriums in our market.”
