American Express Surges While IBM Goes to the Earnings Woodshed

CSX Corp (CSX) ($25.37) beat EPS estimates by 4 cents, earning 46 cents a share. The sell-rated railroad stock opened higher on Wednesday at $26.21, and then slipped to $25.28 on Thursday. The 200-day SMA is $24.22, with a weekly pivot at $26.17 and quarterly risky level at $26.93.

eBay (EBAY) ($51.37) beat EPS estimates by a penny, earning 54 cents a share. The stock gapped lower on Thursday to a low of $50.23 on a lower outlook. The stock is below its 50-day and 200-day SMAs at $53.39 and $53.76. This buy-rated retail-wholesale stock has monthly and semiannual pivots at $50.79 and $51.69, with weekly and semiannual risky levels at $54.49 and $56.21.

IBM (IBM) ($174.83) beat EPS estimates by 3 cents a share, earning 99 cents a share, but missed big on revenue with problems in China cited. The stock gapped to a low of $172.57 on Thursday. This low was a test of the stock's 200-week SMA at $172.67. The buy-rated technology giant has an annual value level at $171.70, with the weekly and monthly risky levels at $187.16 and $188.81.

Intel Corp. (INTC) ($23.87) beat EPS estimates by 5 cents, earning 58 cents a share. The hold-rated semiconductor giant opened slightly lower on Wednesday to $23.22, and then rebounded to $23.87 on Thursday. The stock is still above its 50-day and 200-day SMAs at $22.83 and $22.69, with a weekly pivot at $24.00 and monthly risky level at $24.81.

J.B. Hunt Transportation (JBHT) ($74.66) missed EPS estimates by 3 cents, earning 75 cents a share. The sell-rated trucker traded down to $72.01 and then rebounded to $74.74 on Thursday. My semiannual value level is $72.05 held at the post-earnings low, and then my weekly pivot at $73.97 became a magnet. My monthly risky level is $78.04.

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) ($91.97) beat EPS estimates by 5 cents, earning $1.36 a share. The hold-rated Dow component traded up to $92 on Thursday. My quarterly value level is $87.17, with a monthly risky level at 96.35.

Coca Cola (KO) ($38.55) matched EPS estimates, earning 53 cents a share. The buy-rated Dow component traded down to $37.60 on Tuesday, and then rebounded to close Thursday above its 50-day SMA at $38.45 on Thursday. My weekly pivot is $37.46, with a monthly risky level at $41.78.
