Time Warner Cable today announced that its Connect a Million Minds (CAMM) initiative was inducted into the PR News Hall of Fame during an awards ceremony held today at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City.
CAMM is a five-year, $100 million cash and in-kind philanthropic initiative to address America’s declining proficiency in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Using a variety of channels to raise awareness and connect students to engagement opportunities in STEM, TWC is empowering students as the next generation of problem solvers. Cone Communications assisted in the development of CAMM and continues to counsel Time Warner Cable on its effective implementation.
Each year, the Platinum PR Awards Hall of Fame honors successful communications initiatives that have stood the test of time. According to
PR News, “Inductees represent the best of PR, serving as best-in-class models for all future communications initiatives.”
“Recognition of this caliber is very gratifying and humbling,” said Tessie Topol, Vice President, Corporate Social Responsibility, Time Warner Cable. “We are proud to be able to use our efforts to address a critical issue that is so deeply tied to future success for our students and for our country.”
“Time Warner Cable has truly created a model program. Over the past five years, they have made significant investments in time, money and manpower to make Connect a Million Minds the large success it is today,” commented Bill Fleishman, CEO, Cone Communications. “We are thrilled to be working with them to accomplish their goals and make an impact on such an important issue.”
About Connect a Million Minds
Time Warner Cable’s (TWC) Connect a Million Minds (CAMM) is a five-year, $100 million philanthropic initiative to address America’s declining proficiency in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Using its media assets, TWC creates awareness of the issue and inspires students to develop the STEM skills they need to become the problem solvers of tomorrow. Program highlights include: original PSAs that challenge public perceptions of STEM; a unique website where the public can pledge to connect young people with the wonders of science; “The Connectory”, an online resource for parents to find informal STEM learning opportunities in their communities; grants to non-profit organizations that bring after-school STEM learning to students; and TWC employees, over 50,000 strong, who volunteer their time at events like science fairs and robotics competitions. National partners include CSAS (Coalition for Science After School) and FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). Local TWC markets are activating CAMM across the country with community-specific programs and partnerships. To find out more and to take the CAMM pledge, visit
