EXPERT ALERTS:

Muscular Dystrophy Association Partners With Quintiles for U.S. Disease Registry Dr. Richard Gliklich President Quintiles Outcome"Patient registries are an increasingly important component of real-world evidence development for understanding the cause of disease and identifying effective treatments. They provide a mass of evidence on the performance and safety of new drugs in larger and more diverse populations than those covered in clinical trials and their use is set to increase as healthcare professionals and providers focus on evidence-based medicine." The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and Quintiles are developing the U.S. Neuromuscular Disease Registry, a patient registry that will play an important role in determining effective treatments for people with muscular dystrophy and related muscle diseases. MDA will use the registry to study the natural history of muscular dystrophy and related muscle diseases, collect information on practice patterns, inform care guidelines and improve quality of care for patients. The registry is currently available at 25 medical clinics within the organization's national network, with plans to expand to their full network of 200 clinics by 2015. It will gather data in a common format across neuromuscular diseases, starting with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Becker muscular dystrophy/Duchenne muscular dystrophy (BMD/DMD), and spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), with plans to collect data on three other neuromuscular diseases within the next three years. Draz, M.S.,CFE Principal Fraud Solutions Captivated with the story this week about the former EPA employee ( John Beale) who the government investigation claims masqueraded as a CIA employee, lied to his employer (the EPA) and fraudulently received money from the agency that he was not entitled to for nearly 20 years? Says Draz: "If you think that story is about his working for the CIA, it really isn't. The real story here lies in the employment related failures of the EPA (his employer) and how those business and employment related failures translate directly to *all* businesses whether government agencies or not. There is a definite 'lessons learned' opportunity here. Employees make representations all the time, some are true and some are not. It's what you do about them (or in this case, didn't do) that matters. And when employers don't take the steps necessary to investigate 'red flags' they lose money -- in this case those failures cost the government (and now taxpayers) almost $1,000,000.00."Draz is the principal of Fraud Solutions, a global fraud consulting firm located outside Chicago. He is a recognized leader in the fraud profession, providing innovative enterprise anti-fraud risk management strategies, insightful observations, fraud training and thought leadership to clients. He has extensive corporate fraud management (prevention, detection, investigation, risk, ethics, audit, compliance and legal) experience across a number of different industry verticals and works with companies to improve their enterprise fraud risk management efforts and reduce major fraud losses. Additionally, he is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), has a Masters in Economic Crime Management and is an Adjunct Professor at four colleges where he teaches a variety of fraud, white collar crime and financial crime classes for industry professionals. Ronald Fatoullah & Associates"You may have read about Huguette Clark, the wealthy and eccentric copper industry heiress, who passed away in 2011, leaving two conflicting wills and a three hundred million dollar estate.  After two years in court, a settlement has finally been reached."Fatoullah has been advising New Yorkers about the legal and financial challenges of aging for more than 30 years . He is a leading practitioner with an eight-year inclusion as one of New York's "Best Lawyers" in the fields of elder law, & trusts & estates.Website: http://www.fatoullahlaw.com Media Contact: Carol Schell, cschell@fatoullahlaw.com Pedestrian Safety Michael SteingerPersonal Injury Attorney, Founding Partner Steinger, Iscoe & Greene The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a division of the U.S. Department of Transportation, recently made available $2 million in grants to 22 cities that have experienced pedestrian deaths greater than the national average. Cities had until Aug. 30 to apply for the federal money to be used for education and enforcement initiatives on pedestrian safety. More than 4,000 pedestrians were killed in 2011 according to the NHTSA, an 8 percent increase in two years. Says Steinger,"In whatever way the Department of Transportation can help prevent the frequency of pedestrian accidents and reverse the trend in recent years, it is a positive in our communities." Steinger is a founding partner of Steinger, Iscoe & Greene and a prominent South Florida personal injury attorney. His firm has handled thousands of Florida accident cases, recovering millions of dollars for clients. He is a member of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum. He was interviewed on a Miami TV station for his assessment of the George Zimmerman trial. Website: http://www.injurylawyers.com Media Contact: David Paul, dpaul@eversparkinteractive.com MEDIA JOBS:
