AOL Inc. (NYSE: AOL) today announced the appointment of Eve Burton, senior vice president and general counsel of Hearst Corporation, to its Board of Directors. Burton brings to AOL extensive leadership experience in the media industry spanning print and digital publishing, cable networks and broadcasting, and online media. Burton also has a wealth of expertise in government affairs.

At Hearst, Burton has overall responsibility of day-to-day management for the Office of General Counsel, which provides legal services to all of Hearst’s 200 businesses around the world, including labor relations and government affairs. She is also one of Hearst’s leaders in establishing worldwide strategic enterprise deals with partners, including Apple, Amazon and Google, among others.
Burton has been with Hearst since 2002 and also serves as an adjunct professor of constitutional law and journalism at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Prior to joining Hearst, Burton was vice president and chief legal officer of CNN and vice president at the New York
. Additionally, she practiced law at Weil Gotshal & Manges.
