Transition Action Plans From Military.com Give Transitioning Troops An Edge

MCLEAN, Va., Sept. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Military.com announced today they have added several new features to their Transition Center in order to better serve the needs of transitioning servicemembers.

The Transition Center now features a personalized Transition Action Plan for those leaving the military, those retiring from a career in the military and those serving in the National Guard and Reserve for whom transition is a different experience. The Transition Action Plan tool guides the servicemember using a timeline that recommends specific actions to take at corresponding key points in the transition process; whether they are leaving the service immediately or up to 18 months ahead of time.

The Action Plan provides automatic notifications about when and how to craft a resume, advice on professional networking and detailed information to prepare for the financial aspects of transition from government service to the civilian sector.

The Transition Center also features useful articles, valuable reference material, easy to use check lists and a periodic e-newsletter.

"We want to make it as easy as possible for servicemembers to take charge of their own transitions. We're arming them with the tools and information they need before they get out of the service to have a successful transition to civilian life; whether that includes a job search, earning a degree or preparing financially for this new stage of their lives," said T McCreary, Retired Rear Admiral and President of Military.com.

Military.com and parent company Monster Worldwide provide a number of resources to help veterans and active duty take charge of preparing for their civilian life. According to the 2012 Monster Veterans Talent Index, less than half of respondents (43%) feel they are prepared for their career transition out of the military, down from 53 percent in November 2011. Only 22 percent of respondents are confident about finding work that suits them, down from 34 percent in November 2011.  Additionally, one in two veterans (57%) is concerned about employers understanding their skills and experience.

The job search process for veterans continues to be unfamiliar and lacks structure for job seekers. Conversely, employers have struggled to locate veteran talent and align military experience to role requirements. Monster.com and Military.com's Military Skills Translator converts military specialties into civilian occupations and identifies similar occupations for the user to consider. Additionally, the Veteran Career Network on Military.com features career paths other veterans with similar backgrounds have taken and provides networking between veterans and transitioning personnel for mentorship on education opportunities, transition challenges and career advice based on job specialty. The site also features many jobs for veterans.

"Our Transition Center and the personalized Transition Action Plans are a free resource that we hope will give our servicemembers and veterans the tools they need to be competitive in their job search.  We're going to continually evolve and expand this resource and respond to what our members are telling us they need to enhance their transition experiences," commented Mark Maxwell, Vice President of Products at Military.com/
