Sept. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Genworth Financial, Inc. (NYSE: GNW) announces that it has elected
Melina E. Higgins to serve as a new independent director.
Higgins, 45, retired from a nearly 20-year career at The Goldman Sachs Group in 2010, having been named a managing director in 2001 and a partner in 2002. During her tenure at Goldman, she served as head of the Americas and co-chairperson of the Investment Advisory Committee for the GS Mezzanine Partners funds, which managed over
$30 billion of assets. She also served as a member of the Investment Committee for the Principal Investment Area, which oversaw and approved global private equity and private debt investments. Goldman's Principal Investment Area was one of the largest alternative asset managers in the world. Higgins has served as an independent director of Mylan, Inc. since February 2013.

Higgins holds a B.A. in Economics and Spanish from
Colgate University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. Higgins' election to Genworth's board of directors increases the size of the board from nine to ten directors.
