Xylem Inc., a leading global water technology company focused on addressing the world’s most challenging water issues, announced today that it has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index for the second year in a row in recognition of its ongoing sustainability initiatives. The company also announced that it has joined the Ceres company network as part of its commitment to continuously improving its sustainability performance and disclosure.
“These are meaningful acknowledgments of the work we’ve done to advance sustainable business practices and solutions,” said Steven Loranger, CEO and president of Xylem. “As a leader in water, sustainability helps drive the core of our business. Because we see the benefits of balancing short- and long-term thinking with water issues, it's natural to bring the same mindset to all areas of our business. Our products help our customers achieve their sustainability goals, and we are driving our sustainability program to all levels of our own company.”
The Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) follow a best-in-class approach, including companies across all industries that outperform their peers in numerous sustainability metrics. RobecoSAM, an investment boutique focused exclusively on sustainability investing, invites the world’s 2,500 largest companies (by free-float market capitalization) to report annually on their sustainability performance. The result of the Corporate Sustainability Assessment provides an in-depth analysis of economic, environmental and social criteria, such as corporate governance, water-related risks and stakeholder relations, with a special focus on industry-specific risks and opportunities.
Launched in 1999, the DJSI are the first global indexes tracking the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide. The DJSI enable investors to integrate sustainability considerations into their portfolios while providing an effective engagement platform for encouraging companies to adopt sustainable best practices.
Companies that join Ceres’s network commit to integrate environmental and social performance into their business strategies and initiatives. The Ceres Company Network includes more than 70 member companies from two dozen industries, including technology, apparel, food and beverage, oil and gas, electric utilities and financial services. These companies drive continual improvement of their sustainability performance and disclosure by engaging with environmental and advocacy groups, industry and other stakeholders, including investors.
