Wanted: Young Game Inventors!

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Young Game Inventors' Contest™ (NYGIC) is looking for young board game inventors between the ages of 5-12! Children use imagination and creativity to invent a board game and win fantastic prizes, including money and a game library!

In a world filled with high tech toys and games, the contest encourages traditional play patterns and allows children to blend fun with learning. Parents are excited too because the program offers an escape from television and electronic games, and kids actually can have fun inventing a game!

Since its inception, the NYGIC has sparked the children's imagination and resulted in new product launches for University Games. The 2004 winner, Munch Math™, created by 7-year-old Martin Schneider, challenges players to solve math equations to fill up their "food cards," one bite at a time. Other past winners include Rapunzel's Revenge™, Rhyme Time™, The Great Jungle Adventure™, Twisted Tales™, and Take a Hike! ™ – all of which have been popular among preschool and young school children. The award-winning games have one important feature in common – they were all invented by children!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE: To enter the contest, children aged 5-12 submit a complete board game. Game submissions will be accepted through October 1, 2013. The winner of the contest will receive a $10,000 savings bond, an exciting trip for 4 to San Francisco, and the chance to have their game manufactured by University Games. The winner and four finalists will receive $200 Toys R Us gift cards, and a game library from University Games. This year's sponsors include Toys R Us, Scholastic Parent and Child Magazine and The Prescott Hotel in San Francisco.

For more information about the National Young Game Inventors' Contest™ and to enter, visit or contact April Chu or 415-934-3712.
