ROANOKE, Va., Aug. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Maridor Bed & Breakfast -- a popular Roanoke setting for weddings and other special events -- will sell at auction Friday, Sept. 20, with Woltz & Associates managing the sale.
"The owners have done a marvelous job of restoring this gorgeous historic home. The formal garden, waterfall and pond and grand interior of the home have made for many great memories and photographs of the weddings, receptions, business functions and other events that have taken place there. But after 15 years, the owners now feel that it's time to pass the property and profitable business on to someone else," said Jim Woltz, president of the auction company.
Located in Roanoke's Raleigh Court neighborhood, three blocks from the historic Grandin Village, the home has approximately 10,093 square feet, eight bedrooms, seven full baths and three half baths, including those in the carriage house that has been renovated into a guest house.
"The home has been used as a bed & breakfast and is selling with all the elegant furnishings, banquet equipment and the well known Maridor name. It is equally well suited, of course, as a private residence," said Woltz. The home was originally built in 1916 and named "Maridor" by its third owner, Marion Augustus Smyth, president of the National Business College. "Mr. Smyth combined the names of his two children – Marion and Dorothy – for the name of the home," said Woltz. The auction will begin at 2 p.m. on Sept. 20 at the home. Woltz personnel will be available to guide inspections of the home on Sept. 6 and 13, from noon to 3. Individuals seeking additional information may visit www.woltz.com or call 540-342-3560.
