Monster.com Workforce Talent Survey - Sales Occupations (Graphic: Business Wire)

Monster.com, the worldwide leader in successfully connecting people to job opportunities and flagship brand of Monster Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: MWW), today released new data detailing workers’ views within sales. The results indicate Sales pros have a generally positive employment outlook with nearly half (42%) of those surveyed feeling confident that they could find a new job if they needed one and 58% of respondents agreeing they would relocate for the right opportunity.

This positive employment outlook is supported by the fact that employer demand for these jobs has risen substantially over recent years. Total sales and related jobs have grown 60% from 3 years ago and 8% on an annual basis. 1

Monster data reveals that retail salespersons, supervisors of sales workers, and wholesale and manufacturing sales representatives are currently the top three sales occupations in demand. The top cities for these professions include some of the most sought after job markets in the U.S. such as New York, Chicago, Houston, and Los Angeles.

“With retail sales currently ranking as one of the most in demand jobs in the country, sales professionals have reason to feel optimistic about their job prospects,” said Jeffrey Quinn, Vice President of Monster’s Global Insights. “There are a number of industries actively hiring sales professionals. Higher end department stores, commercial banking centers, and home centers are among the top three industries hiring right now. This is largely indicative of seasonal hires being made ahead of the busy back-to-school and holiday seasons. Within the retail industry, we have seen particular high demand for salespersons, supervisors, and cashiers.”

Despite being among the most confident, the survey suggests that sales professionals still believe that the job market is challenging with nearly three-quarters (74%) agreeing it is more difficult to find a job than it was a year ago.
