NEW YORK, Aug. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- TheStreet (NASDAQ:TST) today announced Alex Pottmeyer as the winner of "The Next Great StockPickr" competition which was held for the first time in April. Pottmeyer is a rising sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh where he plans to study finance. His winning video focused on Apache Corporation.
"The Next Great StockPickr" competition invites college and graduate students to submit a one-minute video presenting and analyzing a stock they believe will show the most gains that year. Entries were submitted online and the winning video was selected by TheStreet's founder and chief markets commentator, Jim Cramer, and his research team.
"Alex's video submission on Apache was the perfect combination of a well-thought out thesis along with enthusiasm and energy. I was so impressed with Alex's work that I asked him to write a piece about how he found Apache and to help us get more young people involved in investing. He's terrific," said Mr. Cramer. "He represents the next generation of stock pickers—I've always said it's important for young people to start investing in companies early on. The benefits can really contribute in big ways to their long-term individual wealth."Pottmeyer won an all-expenses paid trip to New York City to visit TheStreet's offices and meet with Cramer and his investment team in person. He also spent time at the New York Stock Exchange on the set of CNBC's "Squawk on the Street" and taped his own video at TheStreet's studio. In additional he received a one-year free subscription to The Chairman's Club, which encompasses TheStreet's full-suite of premium services to help investors grow their wealth and The Deal Pipeline, The Deal's transaction information service reporting on the deal economy. "Winning this competition and meeting with Jim Cramer was a dream come true," said Alex Pottmeyer, "The Next Great StockPickr" winner. "I feel like I walked away from our meeting with a lot of ideas I can take with me and incorporate into my current studies and future plans in finance and stock picking."
