BOSTON, Aug. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Hennigan Elementary School in Jamaica Plain will get a physical refresh courtesy of a team of volunteers from Silicon Valley Bank's Newton, MA office today. Nearly 65 SVB employees will create and landscape an outdoor classroom and paint inspirational quotes and murals among other tasks, to beautify the school's campus before children return from summer break. The effort is part of Silicon Valley Bank's "30 Years | 30 Causes" anniversary campaign.
Hennigan Elementary is in the Boston school district serving children from kindergarten through fifth grade. Nearly 78 percent of the students are from low-income families.
Silicon Valley Bank, which has been a financial partner to technology and life science companies and their investors in New England since 1990, recently launched a global community service campaign in honor of the company's 30 th anniversary. Silicon Valley Bank's 1,650 employees in more than 30 cities across the US and internationally, will participate in volunteer events for not-for-profit organizations in their local area throughout the remainder of the year.
"This is a great opportunity to bring some needed hands and elbow grease to one of our local schools," said Meghan Mastronardi of Silicon Valley Bank's Boston office. "Working with some amazing companies in this area, we get to see the positive impact they have, and we wanted to share that energy with our community. We're really looking forward to helping make back to school just a little bit nicer for the students and faculty here."The "30 Years | 30 Causes" initiative was developed after the company crowd sourced ideas from its employees to celebrate its anniversary. Boston Cares, a member of the Hands On Network, is facilitating this event. Points of Light is assisting SVB with the development and execution of the campaign worldwide.
