Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM), one of the nation’s leading health and well-being companies, announced it has hired Brendan Baker as the Desert Pacific Region President for Senior Products.
A 25-year veteran in the health insurance industry, Baker will be responsible for oversight of Humana’s Medicare HMO and PPO health plans, prescription drug plan, Medicare supplement policies, and private fee-for-service health plans offered to those eligible for Medicare in Humana’s Desert Pacific region, which encompasses Arizona, Hawaii and Alaska.
The health and well-being company also announced it has promoted Michael Franks, who previously served as the Desert Pacific Region President for Senior Products. Franks will take on the role of Divisional Strategic Development Leader for Humana’s Western Division, which encompasses Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii and Nevada. The division has more than 510,000 Medicare members and more than 3,200 associates.
In his new role, Franks will play a strategic role in developing and identifying the divisional strategy to grow membership and develop corporate opportunities within the Western Division. The position will utilize Franks’ strong skill set at cultivating internal and external business relationships.
Both Baker and Franks will be based in Humana’s Phoenix market office and will report directly to Mark El-Tawil, Western Division Leader.
“With 25 years in the industry, Brendan’s strong ties in the region, knowledge of the marketplace and proven leadership skills will be instrumental to our success as we continue to offer and expand our senior product portfolio,” said El-Tawil.
Prior to joining Humana, Baker served as the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for CareMore Health Systems, a division of Anthem Health. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from California State University Long Beach and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix. He is a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Arizona Society of Certified Public Accountants (ASCPA).
