CARNEGIE, Pa., July 24, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Thanks to the legacy of the late Paul Field, approximately 500 kids will be returning to school in style.  On Saturday, August 10 th, from 10:00 AM through 1:00 PM, Paul's family, friends and some very generous volunteers are hosting "The Fifth Annual Back to School Bash" for children from Natrona Heights, Natrona, Brackenridge, Tarentum, Creighton, Russelton, Deer Lakes, Indianola, Rural Ridge and Blaw Knox.  " Paul Field had a heart for children and believed they all deserved an equal chance in success," said Captain Rickie Armour, The Salvation Army's Allegheny Valley Commanding Officer.  Armour continued, "Paul passed away in October of 2008 and his family felt that the 'Back to School Bash' was the perfect way to honor his memory.  We're delighted that UnitedHealthcare is now joining forces with us to further enhance this important community event."

Also supported by the Tarentum Auxiliary Eagles #699, The Salvation Army's "Back to School Bash" is a three-hour fair providing free backpacks, courtesy of United Healthcare and filled with school supplies from the Allegheny Valley Salvation Army; free haircuts, provided by Bella Capelli Academy of Paul Mitchell Hair Salon; dental screenings from the "Smiles" provided by Mobile Dentist; delicious complimentary food provided by the Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and distributed by The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services canteen and volunteers; safety registry for children provided by the Brackenridge Borough Police; a fire truck tour sponsored by the Pioneer Hose company; and karate demonstrations from CS Kim Karate of Natrona Heights; and vision screenings provided by March Vision.  Also provided are popcorn, cotton candy, sno-cones, games, educational activities, crafts, fun, and so much more.  Highlands School District and UnitedHealthcare will be onsite to provide valuable educational information.

Children must be pre-registered.  Applications will be taken Thursday July 25 th, Tuesday July 30 th and Thursday August 1 st, daily from 4:00 PM through 6:00PM.  For more information, call the Allegheny Valley Salvation Army at 724-224-6310, extensions 2 or 4.
