London Goes Baby Crazy as Royal Son Leaves Hospital

NEW YORK ( TheStreet) - Londoners took to the streets Tuesday to celebrate, or ignore, the newest member of the British monarchy after Princess Catherine and Prince William, the happy parents, left the hospital with their unnamed son.

Princess Kate joined William to meet with reporters and myriad camera crews after numerous members of the extended royal family visited Lindo Wing of Paddington, London's St. Mary Hospital, to see their newest addition. William's father and step-mother, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall Camille as well as Kate's parents were the first to arrive. Carole Middleton, Kate's mother, called her grandson "absolutely beautiful."

"Both my wife and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild,'' Prince Charles and his wife Camille in a statement. "It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine, and we are so thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy."

William and his wife left with "Baby Cambridge," as he is being called, in a car seat. The new father put their son in the back seat of a black Range Rover with Kate, waved to the cheering crowd and then drove home.

"He's got her looks, thankfully," said the Prince.

London institutions are holding public displays in honor of the future king. The King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery held a 41 gun salute in Green Park, as the Honorable Artillery Company fired 62 rounds at the Tower of London. Westminster Abbey began to ring its bells Tuesday afternoon for more than three hours in celebration. The fountains at Trafalgar were blue in honor of the prince. These fountains were dwarfed by Canada's display. Canada, for whom the British monarchy acts as head of state, lit their side of Niagara Falls blue in the boy's honor.

While newspapers across the globe plastered the story across their front page, satirical publication Private Eye heralded the news by printing "Woman has Baby," instead.
