WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., July 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- FTI Consulting, Inc. (NYSE: FCN), the global business advisory firm dedicated to helping organizations protect and enhance their enterprise value, today announced that Elizabeth Alexander, a former aide and Press Secretary to U.S. Vice President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., has been appointed Managing Director with the firm's Strategic Communications segment in Washington, D.C. Alexander will advise clients on communications strategies involving legislative, regulatory and investigative matters across broad sectors of the economy.

Alexander began her five-year tenure with Vice President Biden in 2006, first as then-Sen. Biden's Press Secretary and later as Communications Director. During this time, she served as the primary spokesperson, managed the communications staff and directed national media relations strategy for both Sen. Biden and the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, of which Vice President Biden served as Chair. Following the 2008 election, Alexander served on the Vice Presidential Transition Team and then as Press Secretary for Vice President Biden, managing the communications staff and traveling with the Vice President as his spokesperson to the media on domestic and foreign trips.

Most recently, Alexander worked for the Department of Justice as a federal prosecutor, first in Washington, D.C., and then in Alexandria, Va. During this time, Alexander, who earned her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center, managed and prosecuted a large criminal caseload along with advising the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia on strategic planning and media relations.

"Elizabeth brings invaluable experience honed from operating within the highest levels of government, navigating complex policy and legal issues, as well as directing media relations programs for political campaigns. She is a high-level strategist whose broad view of the opportunities and challenges that face our clients will be of tremendous value," said Edward J. Reilly, Global Chief Executive Officer of the Strategic Communications segment at FTI Consulting.

Jackson Dunn, Americas Head of the Public Affairs offering at FTI Consulting, said, "We are thrilled to have Elizabeth join FTI Consulting. Her considerable talents further strengthen our team's ability to help clients navigate the intersection of market forces, the media and public policy."

Alexander also previously has served as Press Secretary for the United Nations Foundation, Press Secretary for the Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe, Communications Director for California Congressman Adam Schiff and Deputy Press Secretary for U.S. Sen. Charles E. Schumer.
