Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference -
Plantronics (NYSE:PLT), a pioneer in wearable technology, today announced that a key partner, Avtex Solutions, has developed the Avtex Smart Forward Agent application to provide users with additional functionality when they use the Voyager Legend UC headset with Microsoft Lync. By leveraging the contextual information the Legend provides about how close a user is to their PC while wearing it,

can automatically turn the Lync Call Forwarding or Simultaneous Ring features on when the user walks away from their PC.
“Plantronics is excited to see our partners leveraging the broad capabilities of the Voyager Legend UC to bring users an application that enhances the Lync experience beyond audio,” said Joe Burton, senior vice president of Technology, Development & Strategy and CTO at Plantronics. “With users becoming increasingly mobile the Avtex Smart Forward Agent better integrates a user’s mobile phone with Lync for a truly unified communications experience.”
By automatically turning on the Call Forwarding or Simultaneous Ring feature when stepping away from their PC, or turning it off completely – users can communicate the most up to date presence to contacts and maximize the Microsoft Lync experience.
“We based the Avtex Smart Forward Agent application on the Plantronics Spokes SDK because of Plantronics’ unique ability to tap into aspects of a person’s physical world,” said Colleen Reynolds, vice president at Avtex Solutions. “The sophisticated sensor technology Plantronics incorporates into their headsets automatically creates a contextually aware platform for Avtex to build on. We are confident our two technologies will bring users a seamless call forwarding experience.”
Avtex saw the opportunity to enhance the Lync experience by capitalizing on the Spokes SDK™ and the embedded sensor technology within Plantronics headsets. Avtex created the Avtex Smart Forward Agent application, which could communicate contextual data with the PC and headset through a Bluetooth® USB Adapter to sense users’ presence, automatically prompting the Lync Call Forwarding or Simultaneous Ring feature as needed.
