Met-Ed Contributes $10,000 To Gettysburg Foundation To Help Commemorate 150th Anniversary Of Historic Battle

READING, Pa., July 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- A $10,000 contribution made by FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE) subsidiary Metropolitan Edison (Met-Ed) is helping the Gettysburg Foundation commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, the most famous battle of the American Civil War.  The town of Gettysburg and the battlefield site are located in Met-Ed's southeast Pennsylvania service area.

The Battle of Gettysburg – the largest battle ever fought in North America – draws significant interest throughout the country and this commemorative event also is receiving global attention.  A variety of events have been planned and will run through July 7 to honor the sacrifices made during the famous battle.

"We are honored to support this milestone anniversary of one of the most important events in our nation's history," said Mike Doran, Met-Ed's regional president.  "As a company, supporting this commemorative event takes on added significance since the Battle of Gettysburg took place in our service territory."

The Battle of Gettysburg anniversary events have been recognized by the travel industry as a top-10 travel destination for 2013.

Met-Ed leadership, including its Operations, Substation, Transmission, and Vegetation Management departments, worked with Gettysburg officials to ensure the event's success by developing special operational and staffing plans designed to accommodate the increased number of tourists that are anticipated during the 10-day event.
