NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Bryan Chaffin, co-founder and co-publisher of The Mac Observer Website, sent me a nice email Thursday. He not only told me about Mac Observer's Apple Death Knell Counter, he notified me of my inclusion at position No. 62 with Apple Death Knell #62: Apple Isn't Just Dying It's Dead:
Most of the entries are written by people with little or no understanding of Apple (AAPL), but that wasn't the case for your entry ...
I don't normally notify people when I add them to the ADKC (Apple Death Knell Counter), but I did want to shoot you a note. It's a rare thing for an entry to the ADKC not to be flat out wrong, but the real point of the Counter is to catalog the Death Knells whether or not they are accurate ...
Honestly, Rocco, I felt weird putting your entry together. It was clearly a death knell, but it wasn't written out of ignorance or stupidity. Most of the entries are just plain stupid. People back in the day arguing that Apple had to license Mac OS (or die), move to Intel (or die--of course, Apple did eventually do that one), make cheap iPhones (or die) ...
In any event, as I wrote in my explanation, your death knell has a reasonable foundation. If you're right and Apple is kowtowing to Wall Street, things will go downhill. I just don't think that's what's happening.
Of course, my recent article -- There's No Question Now: Apple is Dead -- caught Chaffin's attention and triggered entry #62.
There's no need to battle back and forth with Bryan. You can read my article and his reaction to it and make up your own mind. We come at Apple's present state from different perspectives. He makes valid points; I just don't happen to agree with them. And vice versa.
I just wanted to make you aware of the existence of the ADKC. It's well worth your time to go through the entries chronologically. From there, you can either consider my take thoughtfully like Bryan did or react emotionally and lump me in with what are some pretty absurd predictions of Apple's demise (especially the most recent one that mentions Microsoft (MSFT)). Sadly, it might end up being that I broke the trend.Follow @rocco_thestreet -- Written by Rocco Pendola in Santa Monica, Calif.
