Latest Boeing 787 Problem Diverts United's Denver-Tokyo Flight

SEATTLE ( TheStreet) -- United (UAL) reported the latest incident involving a Boeing (BA) 787 Dreamliner on Tuesday, when a Denver-Tokyo flight diverted to Seattle because of an oil filter issue.

A Boeing spokeswoman told The Seattle Times that the incident was "completely unrelated to any battery issues" that grounded the aircraft for three months ended May 20. A United spokeswoman said the crew decided to land in Seattle because of "an indication of a problem with an oil filter," The Associated Press reported.

United provided the flight's roughly 200 customers with hotel rooms and planned to fly them to Tokyo on Wednesday, the airline's spokeswoman said, according to the AP.

Since the May return to service, the 787 has continued to face minor problems unrelated to the battery. On June 10, Japanese carrier All Nippon Airways canceled a Fukuoka-Tokyo flight after an engine sensor indicated a possible problem. On June 11, Japan Air Lines cancelled a Tokyo-Singapore flight due to a de-icing problem. ANA cancelled on June 12 an Ube-Tokyo flight after an engine failed to start.

United inaugurated its 787 Denver-Tokyo service on June 13. At the Paris Air Show on Tuesday, Boeing announced the launch of the 787-10, a stretched version of the aircraft, and United said it would be the U.S. launch carrier.
