BorgWarner's new and expanded 215,200-square-foot (20,000-square-meter) Brazilian plant and engineering center will serve customers with BorgWarner's advanced fuel-efficient technologies.
With a total area of nearly 100,000 square meters, the campus also offers additional space for future expansion. The increasing demand for BorgWarner's technologies in
results from new government legislation which will begin to take effect in 2013 and become increasingly more rigorous. The legislation also includes a 12 percent average reduction in the fuel consumption of cars and light vehicles by 2017. To support the reductions, BorgWarner offers engine and drivetrain technologies, including optimization of its leading turbocharging technologies for gasoline engines that use Brazilian fuel containing 20-25 percent ethanol.
BorgWarner entered the Brazilian market with its facility in Campinas in 1975. Since then, the company has established a market-leading position in turbocharger, fan and fan drive production. BorgWarner plans to begin production for variable camshaft timing (VCT) technology and engine timing systems soon.
