Bruce McBarnette of
Sterling, VA, the world record holder in the high jump for men over 55, competed in the Masters Challenge High Jump at the
Big C Relays in
Anchorage Alaska on
April 5 against the best high school jumpers in that state. This
Big C Relays is the largest track meet held in
Alaska and annually includes close to 1000 high school athletes. The Masters Challenge pitted the best of the
Alaska's jumpers against McBarnette and the current World Champion and two time Olympian,
Hundreds of high school athletes crowded around the high jump area to watch these two celebrities.
McBarnette, who is sponsored by
Summit Connection LLC and is 55, was out performed by only two high school jumpers. Williams won the competition.
Stacey Nieder, the
USA record holder for women over 40, won against the high school girls.
The next day,
McBarnette, Williams, and Nieder coached high jump clinics for the athletes.

McBarnette, who is also a realtor and president of a real estate investment firm, has broken several age group world records, has won 9 world masters championships, and 27 USA Masters Championships for his age group. His personal record is 7 feet 1 inch.
He is also an actor and had roles in movies and TV shows such as West Wing, The Wire, and Law and Order. Also as a philanthropist, he has hosted events benefiting hurricane victims and other charitable causes at Embassies in
He promotes health and wellness by organizing the annual Capitol Wellness Expo in
Washington, DC and by partnering with Fitbehavior, a fitness motivational publication company.
McBarnette, a graduate of Princeton University and New York University Law School, was a legal counsel to
the United States Senate, a senior counsel for Fannie Mae, and a Judge Advocate attorney for the US Army. His coach at
Princeton was Olympian Fred Samara.
