About the Nauset Light Preservation Society The non-profit Nauset Light Preservation Society (NLPS), an all-volunteer organization, was formed in 1993. A group of Eastham residents became concerned when the Coast Guard announced it had no plans to save Eastham's most famous historic structure from the ravages of the Atlantic Ocean. It was through the efforts of the NLPS that the Nauset Light was successfully moved to a new site in November 1996. During the relighting ceremony in May 1997, the Coast Guard transferred ownership of the lighthouse to the National Park Service. For more information visit www.nausetlight.org.
