PwC And Knowledge@Wharton High School To Host Business And Financial Responsibility Training Seminar For High School Educators
SAN FRANCISCO, April 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- PwC US and Knowledge @ Wharton High School (KWHS) today announced that registration is open for the PwC-KWHS Seminar for High School Educators on Business and Financial Responsibility. The financial literacy and leadership development seminar will be offered to 120 educators June 17-19 in San Francisco at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania's west coast campus. These educators, including public and private high school teachers, principals, administrators and superintendents predominantly from the western United States, can apply through an online application process.
"After our successful conference at Wharton in Philadelphia last September, we are thrilled to extend this opportunity to promote financial literacy, entrepreneurship and leadership among west coast educators and their students," said Mukul Pandya, executive director and editor-in-chief of Knowledge @ Wharton. "We are grateful for PwC's continued partnership and support in bringing to life this dynamic and engaging learning experience."
Together, PwC and KWHS support the infusion of financial literacy into scholastic standards such as math, social studies and English. Additionally, in recognizing the essential need among today's students to be prepared for their future, the seminar will equip attendees with PwC's financial literacy curricula to use in their classrooms and will teach attendees about the extensive financial literacy classroom resources — including lesson plans, articles and video glossary terms — that are available through KWHS."Most teachers understand the importance of developing critical financial skills, and they are aware of the role they play in helping to impact their students' financial well-being," said Shannon Schuyler, corporate responsibility leader of PwC US. "Unfortunately, a lack of resources and training is a very real barrier they face daily. These seminars, which are part of PwC's Earn Your Future commitment, allow us to contribute to the solution as we work to change the financial literacy aptitude of our nation's youth." These seminars help address a major education gap by providing a professional development opportunity for all attendees to deepen their subject-matter knowledge of financial literacy. In fact, more than 90 percent of attendees at the inaugural 2012 PwC-KWHS Seminar for High School Educators on Business and Financial Responsibility reported that they significantly or moderately increased their comfort level teaching financial literacy as a result of attending the event. At the June seminar, teachers will not only have the opportunity to learn from subject matter experts but will also learn from each other through opportunities to network with peers and through a panel on best practices in teaching financial literacy, which will feature teachers from across the country.
