PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla., April 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Florida Virtual Academy at Palm Beach County – a new online public charter school – is now accepting enrollments for the 2013-14 school year following approval of the school's contract with the School Board of Palm Beach County earlier this week.
The school will offer grades K-8 next year and add high school grades in subsequent years.

The school will offer state-of-the-art digital courses and content led by expertly trained, Florida-certified teachers using highly innovative learning technology. The school is governed by the independent, nonprofit South Florida Virtual Charter School Board. Florida Virtual Academy at Palm Beach County will use curriculum, technology, and academic services provided by K12 Inc. (NYSE: LRN), America's largest provider of online school programs in kindergarten through high school. K12 is one of the first state-approved digital learning providers in Florida and currently serves many online public charter schools and district-based Virtual Instruction Programs across the state. K12's status as a state-approved provider was recently renewed by the Florida Department of Education. Florida Virtual Academy at Palm Beach County will offer flexible and personalized learning programs that work for all types of students, from advanced learners to students with special needs. Certified teachers will provide instruction, guidance and support, and will interact regularly with students using innovative technology and web-based classrooms. Teachers also organize school field trips, activities, clubs, and events for students and families. Florida Virtual Academy at Palm Beach County will follow all state accountability standards and requirements. Like students in brick and mortar schools, Florida Virtual Academy students will be required to meet state attendance requirements and participate in state assessments, including the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test® 2.0 (FCAT 2.0).
