HANNOVER, Germany, April 11, 2013 Titanium Valley Special Economic Zone, a Russian government-backed project that aims to attract major international industrial groups by offering them tax incentives and access to Russia's mining, refining and manufacturing facilities, has offered Hannover City Hall to put up a monument to element titanium – an aircraft wing of titanium – in Hanover. Titanium was discovered and named by chemist Martin Heinrich Klaproth, a Hannover resident. The monument drawing, a vertically positioned feathery aircraft wing made of titanium, has been designed by Tim Radey, a well-known Urals conceptual artist. The drawing was presented at the Hannover Messe trade show on April 10.
"The Sverdlovsk Region is home to the world's largest producer of titanium, a metal widely used in aviation and other manufacturing. The Titanium Valley Zone has been established to attract Russian and international industrial groups interested in access to unique industrial resources and also prepared to invest in the Russian economy," Head of the SEZ Artemiy Kyzlasov says.
The sculpture the Titanium Valley is proposing to donate to Hannover is unique first of all because it is going to be made of titanium. The world's only extant titanium sculpture is the well-known monument to first cosmonaut Yury Gagarin in Moscow.Dr. Hartmut Selle, project director for international affairs for Hannover Impulse, who was present at the unveiling ceremony at the Hannover Messe exhibition, said: "As a citizen of Hannover, I hope that this project is going to be realized". "We are happy to have the opportunity to donate to Hannover the monument to titanium – this is not only a token of cooperation between our nations and cities, but also a cultural artifact tourists from Russia and other countries are going to appreciate," Kyzlasov added as the drawing was unveiled at the Hannover Messe. Also in Hannover, the Titanium Valley leadership detailed the benefits and advantages of doing business in the region and held talks with prospective SEZ residents. Russia's special economic zones are one of the most effective new tools for attracting investment in fixed assets in the country and ensuring integration of Western manufacturing facilities in the Russian infrastructure.
