Cambridge College School Of Management Program Hosts A Panel Discussion On Trends And Opportunities In Health Information Technology

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., April 10, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Cambridge College's School of Management will host a panel discussion on the growing Health Information Technology (HIT) job market and career opportunities in health care organizations.

"Current Trends and Opportunities in Health Care Informatics," will feature a presentation and panel discussion focusing on the growing influence of electronic health systems and health information technology within the industry and for users, as well as the impact this will have on the demand for HIT professionals.

The keynote will be delivered by Ray Campbell, an attorney and former Executive Director & CEO of the Massachusetts Health Data Consortium (MHDC).  Mr. Campbell's expertise in the fields of health information technology, health information exchange, health data and analytics, and health care reform policy makes him uniquely positioned to provide valuable insight for this discussion.  He will explain how the passage of the HITECH provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, along with over $11 billion in incentive payments paid to Medicare and Medicaid providers through the Meaningful Use program, have transformed the health care and HIT landscape. Following his presentation, human resource professionals representing some of Boston's top health care organizations will share their perspectives on trends for recruiting and developing the talent needed to support these changes.

"We are excited about this opportunity to bring together experts in health information technology trends, employers, and those interested in training in the growing field of healthcare informatics," says Dr. Mary Ann Joseph, Acting Dean of the Cambridge College School of Management. "Based on the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of health information technology is expected to increase by 21 percent from 2010 to 2020, faster than the average for all occupations."

According to Claritza Abreu, Chair of the Health Care Informatics program, the increased use of information technology bodes well for the future of the health care sector. "I am a true believer that through information technology, the health care industry will be able to improve quality of care, prevent medical errors, reduce health care costs, increase administrative efficiencies, decrease paperwork and expand affordable care. However none of this can be accomplished without a trained workforce to take on these comprehensive efforts."

Cambridge College offers master's degree and graduate certificate programs in health care informatics, healthcare management and senior care. "Our programs provide students with the skills and expertise necessary to manage, lead and contribute to a better health care system in the U.S.," says Dean Joseph.  As with all Cambridge College programs, students have the opportunity to complete a graduate degree within a high demand concentration while maintaining their full time employment and meeting family obligations.

The event is free and will take place from 9:00 am12:00 pm on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the School of Management, 17 Monsignor O'Brien Highway in Cambridge, MA.  Students, faculty, alumni and the general audience are welcome to attend and participate in this discussion. For more information or to RSVP contact Nancy Napolitano at Nancy.Napolitano@cambridgecollege.edu, or call 617-873-0601.
