The market for wood pellet combustion systems is large and growing. Currently, over two million stoves and inserts are sold annually in the EU in 27 countries. In
the United States
, more than 600,000 homes use wood pellet heating systems. Additionally, demand in
for residential systems grew at an annualized rate of over 25%. Between 2007 and 2010, the global wood pellet market experienced a dramatic increase and this trend is continuing with global production increasing from almost 8 million tons per year to over 14 million tons in 2010. By 2020, global production is projected to reach between 35 and 50 million tons in the EU alone.
ClearSign recently announced that it had constructed and fired a new test furnace, capable of firing at a rate of over 1.2 million Btu/h per square foot, and dedicated to development activities related to solid fuel combustion. This continuous-feed furnace expands the company's development and testing capabilities, enabling it to test fuels similar to those used in Grandeg's systems and at a similar scale to commercial units.
