CVHP's Queen Of The Valley Campus Earns Primary Stroke Center Distinction
WEST COVINA, Calif., April 9, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Citrus Valley Health Partners' Queen of the Valley (QVC) Campus has earned the Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission for Primary Stroke Centers. QVC earned this distinction after The Joint Commission conducted an on-site review in March.
The Joint Commission's Certificate of Distinction for Primary Stroke Centers recognizes centers that make exceptional efforts to foster better outcomes for stroke care. Achievement of certification signifies that the services QVC provides have the critical elements to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes and effectively manage the unique and specialized needs of stroke patients.
The Joint Commission's Primary Stroke Center certification is based on the recommendations for primary stroke centers published by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association's statements and guidelines for stroke care."We're proud of the extraordinary team that worked tirelessly to earn this prestigious designation," said Robert Curry, President & CEO of Citrus Valley Health Partners. "A Primary Stroke Center certification from The Joint Commission recognizes CVHP's commitment to providing outstanding care to our stroke patients and our community." Each year about 700,000 people experience a new or recurrent stroke, which is the nation's third-leading cause of death. On average, someone suffers a stroke every 45 seconds, and someone dies of a stroke every 3.1 minutes. Stroke is a leading cause of serious, long-term disability in the United States. "Seconds count with stroke care. The quicker patients have access to specialized stroke care, the better their outcomes. Our patients and community are at the heart of what we do and our belief that we can make a difference played a vital role in helping us earn Primary Stroke Center certification," said Arbi Ohanian, MD, neurologist and medical director of the Stroke Program at QVC.
