Seeds Of Change® Helps Community Gardens And Farms Grow More Through The Share The Good Grant Program

LOS ANGELES, April 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Seeds of Change®, maker of organically grown seeds and nutritious organic foods, is announcing the return of its Share the Good grant program and this year will be giving away more money in grants to deserving organizations that apply through its Facebook page. From April 8 until April 22, organizations that inspire nutrition, gardening and farming programs could receive a $25,000 grant or one of 15 $10,000 grants to support efforts to enhance the environmental, economic and social well-being of gardens, farms, farmers and communities.

The Share the Good grant program is funded by the Seeds of Change "1% Fund," the company's commitment to donate one percent of its global net sales to community-based nutrition, gardening and farming programs. Community-based schools, nutrition-focused programs, gardens and farm-related organizations are encouraged to apply for a grant to support and expand their sustainable growing initiatives.

"Local gardens and farms are an incredibly powerful tool when it comes to teaching our families and communities about nutrition and where our food comes from," said Tim Snyder for Seeds of Change. "At Seeds of Change, we want to ensure that these organizations continue to grow and remain a resource for families across the U.S., which is why we created the Share the Good grant program."

To kick off the second year of the program, the Share the Good Mobile Garden will hit the road once again on a tour visiting schools and retailers in communities across 10 cities nationwide to share the seed-to-plate story. From April 8-22, the Mobile Garden tour will stop in Baltimore, Boston, Hartford, Los Angeles, New York, Portland, Sacramento, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C.

Share the Good Grant ProgramFrom now until April 22, 2013, eligible organizations can apply through the Seeds of Change Facebook page for a Share the Good grant. Grants will be awarded to local schools, food and nutrition based education programs, and organizations that use gardening or farming to encourage their community's appreciation for food from seed to plate.

Each applicant is asked to describe how its organization or project shares the good in its community through sustainable gardening and farming, and how the project or activity makes its community more sustainable.  Specific application details are available online at

Applications will then be made available for voting by anyone who visits the Seeds of Change Facebook page from April 22 to May 17, 2013. The top 50 organizations or programs that receive the most votes will move onto the final judging phase. The grant recipients will be selected by a panel of judges that includes Seeds of Change farmers, who will evaluate each proposal's impact and relevance to the Share the Good initiative. Winners will be announced on or around June 4, 2013. More details on the application and judging process are available on the Facebook page.   Please visit for more information.

About Seeds of Change®Seeds of Change® was founded in 1989 by passionate gardeners with a vision to make organically grown seeds available to gardeners and farmers, while preserving countless heirloom seed varieties in danger of being lost to the "advances" of modern industrial agriculture. For over 20 years, we have remained true to our original vision by offering the largest selection of organic seeds in the industry, including heirloom, traditional, and rare seeds. Our seeds are produced through a network of certified organic family farms and professional growers. Through these partnerships, we continually cultivate, study and develop seeds with the goal of producing the finest certified organic, open-pollinated varieties to share with our fellow gardeners and farmers. In 1997 our business expanded to also include Organic Food inspired by the notion that great taste and sustainability go hand in hand.   We now offer a wide variety of Dry and Ready to Heat organic Rice and Grain varieties as well as organic cooking sauces.   For more information about Seeds of Change® visit for our seed products and for our food products.
