St. Anthony Foundation Announces New Executive Director
SAN FRANCISCO, March 26, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- St. Anthony Foundation, their Board of Trustees and their Board of Directors are pleased to announce the appointment of Barry J. Stenger Ph.D. as the new Executive Director. Stenger will replace Shari Roeseler, who left St. Anthony's last fall to return to Sacramento to become the CEO of the Society for the Blind.
In St. Anthony's 63 year history of serving the poor and low income of San Francisco, Stenger is the seventh person to lead the organization. The Board of Directors launched a 6 month nationwide search to find the candidate whose qualifications could best fulfill the unique charge to lead one of San Francisco's most historic and cherished nonprofits.
Stenger has over twenty years of nonprofit management experience. He has been St. Anthony's Director of Development for the past eight years. He holds a Ph.D. in social ethics from the University of Chicago, taught at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley and Santa Clara University, and has contributed to the work of the Franciscans on the west coast in a variety of capacities.
" Barry has shown tremendous leadership in cultivating a strong relationship between the Franciscan values that guide St. Anthony's and the resources necessary to make the day-to-day work possible," remarked Board of Directors President Suzanne B. Swift. Swift enthusiastically endorsed Stenger as a person who has the forward-thinking qualities to usher St. Anthony's into a new era. "Under Barry's leadership as the Development Director, St. Anthony's has raised 90% of the $22.5 million necessary to begin construction on the new Dining Room scheduled to open in the fall of 2014. The success of this campaign is a testament to Barry's leadership."When asked what excites him about assuming these responsibilities, Stenger said that he believes "St. Anthony's is poised to enter a new and dynamic phase of its service to the community: we're building a new Dining Room; we're reaching out to new generations of San Franciscans who want to be involved in our work; and we're focusing on new metrics to measure the life-changing outcomes for the guests we serve."
