/PRNewswire/ -- The Stop the North Fork Compact Coalition announced today that it has launched a website to raise awareness about the unlawful casino along Highway 99.
The Coalition has posted a resolution for interested parties to sign to express opposition to the gambling agreement between the North Fork Band of Mono Indians and the
State of California
. The resolutions and other comments received will be shared with legislators this year.
The website will continue to grow as the legislature considers whether to approve the compact, which would allow a casino to be built along Highway 99 despite the North Fork Tribe already having land for a casino.
"This website will be a resource for everyone who wants to know the truth about what could happen to
if the compact is approved by the legislature," said
, who has been opposed to the off reservation casino for years. "The more people find out about the casino, the more they realize how wrong it is. It conflicts with the promise made to
citizens that gambling would stay on Indian lands. Moreover, the legislature was not consulted during the drafting of the compact and the project has been opposed repeatedly by the local community. Check facts – they speak for themselves."
The Stop the North Fork Compact Coalition is comprised of elected officials, businesses, Indian Tribes, and concerned citizens who have all expressed opposition to the casino on the border of
along Highway 99.
The approval of the compact is the last major step for the casino after Governor
approved the casino without consulting the legislature.
