OptumRx, a leading pharmacy benefits management (PBM) organization and one of the Optum companies of UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH), announced an expansion in Oklahoma City, where employees will serve the health care needs of millions of Americans.
The announcement was made at a news conference today in Oklahoma City attended by U.S. Sen. James Inhofe and Stephen J. Hemsley, president and CEO of UnitedHealth Group.
“UnitedHealth Group strives to stay ahead of changing demands in the market for health care, so that we are always prepared to help people get the high-quality, affordable care they need,” said Hemsley. “The new positions we are announcing today will help us quickly adapt to the changes in a more consumer-focused health marketplace.”
"Oklahoma is among the states with the lowest unemployment rates, and I am confident that this is a result of the state's pro-business leadership and our hard-working Oklahomans,” said Inhofe. “OptumRx and UnitedHealth Group's recent decision to expand their operation in the state is a strong sign that Oklahoma will continue to pave the way for industry as businesses relocate to and grow with the state of Oklahoma."
“I am pleased that Optum and UnitedHealth Group recognize Oklahoma’s high-quality workforce and excellent business climate,” said Gov. Mary Fallin. “The jobs UnitedHealth Group has created here over the past months shows that Oklahoma is a premier destination for the growth of innovative businesses such as Optum. I look forward to a long and successful partnership between Optum and Oklahoma.”
The company will hire Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians (who must be licensed to work in Oklahoma), in addition to Customer Service Advocates and a variety of positions involving training and quality management. The company expects the facility to be fully staffed by the end of this year to help ensure OptumRx is prepared to serve UnitedHealthcare employer and individual health plan participants.
