NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Safeway (NYSE:SWY) hit a new 52-week high Wednesday as it is currently trading at $24.95, above its previous 52-week high of $24.43 with 7.1 million shares traded as of 1:45 p.m. ET. Average volume has been 5.7 million shares over the past 30 days.

Safeway has a market cap of $5.73 billion and is part of the services sector and retail industry. Shares are up 34.3% year to date as of the close of trading on Tuesday.

Safeway Inc., together with its subsidiaries, operates as a food and drug retailer in North America. The company has a P/E ratio of 10.5, below the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7.
