COLUMBUS, Ga., Feb. 28, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Aflac, the number one provider of voluntary insurance in the United States, and the number one life insurer in Japan based on policies in force, has been recognized by FORTUNE magazine as a World's Most Admired Company for the 12th time. According to FORTUNE, the World's Most Admired Companies list is the definitive report card on corporate reputations. Aflac was listed at number one in the Insurance: Life and Health category.
"We work hard every day to be a company that delivers on its promises with efficiency and integrity," Aflac Chairman and CEO Dan Amos said. "We are extremely pleased to be number one on FORTUNE'S World's Most Admired Companies list in the life and health category as it validates the efforts of our team and the strength of our business model."
According to the survey, Aflac scored number one in the life and health category in the areas of innovation, corporate assets, people management, long-term investment, quality of product and services and global competitiveness.
To compile the list of Most Admired Companies, the Hay Group, a global management consulting firm, started with approximately 1,400 companies: the Fortune 1,000 -- the 1,000 largest U.S. companies ranked by revenue and non-U.S. companies in Fortune's global 500 database with revenue of $10 billion or more. Hay then selected the 15 largest for each international industry and the 10 largest for each U.S. industry, surveying a total of 687 companies from 30 countries. To create the 57 industry lists, Hay asked executives, directors, and analysts to rate companies in their industry on nine criteria, from investment value to social responsibility. A company's score must rank in the top half of its industry survey to be listed. The 2013 list currently appears online at FORTUNE.com. The list will appear in FORTUNE magazine's March 18, 2013 print edition. About Aflac When a policyholder gets sick or hurt, Aflac pays cash benefits fast.
