Qatar Airways Inspires Children With Aircraft Tour At Dulles Airport

With the spirit of inspiring interest in engineering and science, 40 young members of the Greater Washington Boys & Girls Clubs (GWBGC) were given an all-access tour of one of the world's largest commercial aircraft. From the tarmac to the cockpit, they viewed the plane from an engineer's perspective, while being given the opportunity to pose questions directly to Qatar Airways staff.

"Today's youth will become the engineers and aviators of tomorrow. Qatar Airways is proud to inspire and encourage the next generation towards a lifelong curiosity in science and technology. Today was an unforgettable event, which has shown these young people the wonders they can achieve through education," said Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker.

In the U.S. it is projected that by 2018, S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) jobs will account for nearly 2.8 million new jobs. Many in the aviation industry have stressed the need to invest in future of qualified S.T.E.M. candidates and Qatar Airways hopes events such as this will inspire future innovators, engineers, technicians and pilots.

Qatar Airways donated backpacks to youth from the Boys & Girls Club, giving the children a reminder of the importance of science, technology, engineering, and math in today's world.

One of the world's fastest growing airlines, Qatar Airways has seen rapid growth in just 15 years of operations, currently flying a modern fleet of 119 aircraft to 125 key business and leisure destinations worldwide.

Qatar Airways currently operates daily flights from Washington's Dulles Airport. Over the next few weeks, Qatar Airways will launch services to a diverse portfolio of new routes, including Chengdu, China ( March 19); Chicago, USA ( April 10); and Salalah, Oman ( May 22).
