Dan Brutto, a 38-year veteran and the architect of UPS’s international strategy for the past five-and-a-half years will retire at the end of April. Brutto, 56, will be succeeded as president of UPS International by 28-year UPS employee Jim Barber, currently president of UPS Europe.
In his new position, the 52-year-old Barber will join UPS’s Management Committee, comprised of the company’s 10 most senior executives.
“Dan is the epitome of a global leader who understands what it takes to be successful on the world stage,” said UPS Chairman and CEO Scott Davis. “He sets a strategy and then enables people to get large ideas accomplished. Dan’s contributions will have a lasting impact on future generations of UPSers and we are grateful for his dedication.”
UPS has introduced innovative services and technologies to help solve global needs of business customers and consumers. Davis said, “We remain bullish on Europe for the long-term and we are near completion of the three-year expansion of our main European air hub in Cologne. In addition, we are well positioned in Asia and other regions of the world. Our focus remains on deploying leading technologies to support our operations and provide unique customer solutions while expanding our global network and serving the needs of end consumers around the world.”“This is an exciting time,” Davis added. “We have a strong growth strategy and we will continue to look for growth opportunities either organic or through acquisition. Jim will be very effective in expanding our international business while driving innovation, new services and improving profitability. The transition to Jim will be seamless and demonstrates the strength and depth of our management team.” Barber joined UPS in 1985 and has been a senior executive on the international management team since 2004. He has served in key operational and financial positions, including president of the UK & Ireland district, and chief operating officer for UPS Europe where he was responsible for the business performance across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), as well as the region’s sophisticated air and ground transportation network. In his current role he is responsible for all UPS operations in more than 120 EMEA countries and territories.
