AS SEQUESTRATION LOOMS, PROTESTORS TO PICKET LOCKHEED MARTIN TO CALL FOR AN END TO WASTEFUL SPENDING
WASHINGTON, Feb. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As part of a National Day of Action across the U.S., protestors will gather at the lobbying headquarters of Lockheed Martin at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, to demand an end to wasteful Pentagon spending. Joining the protestors at 400 Virginia Ave. SW will be a giant, 20-foot-tall, inflatable pink pig named L. Martin.
"Pull the Pork from the Pentagon: Protect our Priorities. Protect Our Middle Class" events are taking place in some two dozen states across the country on Feb. 27. In D.C., protestors are targeting the lobbying office of Lockheed Martin, the world's largest defense contractor, because of the disproportionate amount of tax dollars it has received and squandered.
The Feb. 27 National Day of Action is taking place as Congress faces a series of deadlines on our country's budget priorities, including possible automatic spending cuts scheduled to take place beginning midnight on March 1. Some 120 national organizations have signed on to a letter circulated by USAction, Coalition on Human Needs and NETWORK calling on Congress to rein in wasteful Pentagon spending. In addition, more than 100,000 USAction members have signed an online petition demanding that Congress take action.
