JMP Group Inc. (NYSE:
JMP), an investment banking and alternative asset management firm, announced today that Thomas R. Wright has joined JMP Securities as a managing director and director of equities. Based in the firm’s New York office, Mr. Wright will oversee JMP Securities’ institutional sales and trading business as well as its equity research effort.
“We are thrilled to announce that Tom has joined JMP,” said Mark Lehmann, president of JMP Securities. “Tom has a wealth of experience gained at Wall Street’s most respected firms, and JMP will benefit tremendously from his expertise, relationships and perspective. Despite the challenging environment for the institutional equities business in recent years, JMP Securities continued to invest in its brokerage platform while many others in the industry cut back. Tom’s arrival underscores our commitment to the success of our equity sales, trading and research operations and to the quality of JMP Securities’ institutional offering.”
Before joining JMP Securities, Mr. Wright served as global head of trading at Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. for eight years. During the ten prior years, he held a variety of leadership positions at Merrill Lynch & Co., most recently as head of European equity trading and salestrading and previously as head of U.S. equity trading and salestrading. Mr. Wright was also a vice president and Nasdaq salestrader at Goldman Sachs & Co. for eight years. He began his career at Merrill Lynch & Co. on the Nasdaq desk in 1983. Mr. Wright received an M.B.A. from New York University Stern School of Business and a B.S. in economics and finance from Boston College.
