Scouts Canada Celebrates Scout-Guide Week 2013
OTTAWA, Feb. 19, 2013 /CNW/ - Across Canada, Scouts Canada members past and present will be celebrating their heritage and commitment to educating youth during Scout-Guide Week from February 17 to 24, 2013.
"Scout-Guide Week is a time to celebrate our heritage and put a spotlight on the good work the Scouting Movement does for the community," said Andrew Price, Chief Commissioner and Chair of the Board of Governors of Scouts Canada. "Scouting instills values of leadership, honour and teamwork through the many exciting programs it provides for boys, girls and young people nationwide. This week is an opportunity to proudly recognize the contribution of our hard-working, dedicated volunteers that deliver our programs and the impact our youth make in every community across the country."
The celebration marks the birthdays of Scouting's founder Lord Robert Baden-Powell and his wife, the World Chief Guide, Lady Olave Baden-Powell ( February 22). More than 100,000 Scouting youth and volunteers will celebrate the week through camps, expeditions and mall displays, banquets and parades, and recognition events. In keeping with tradition, many Scouts proudly wear their uniforms to school and to work.
