The SEL skills that students develop through programs such as Voices Literature & Writing also enable them to meet the goals of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). "Many of the educators I work with feel that the focus on meeting the CCSS leaves no time to teach SEL skills," said Pamela Randall, Ed.D., director for practice at the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL). "But, SEL competencies like problem-solving, perspective-taking, and self-management are absolutely necessary in order for students to achieve Common Core success."
