DeVry Honored For Outstanding Support Of Employee Service In The National Guard And Reserve

DeVry (NYSE: DV), a global provider of educational services, has been honored by the Illinois Committee for the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency of the Department of Defense, with an Above and Beyond Award in recognition of its support of employee service in the National Guard and Reserve.

“The Above and Beyond Award recognizes organizations that provide outstanding support and cooperation to their employees who have answered their nation’s call to serve in uniform in the National Guard and Reserve,” said Michael Ayers, Ph.D., Illinois ESGR state chair. “Supportive employers are critically important to maintaining the strength and readiness of the National Guard and Reserve.

“DeVry joins thousands of employers that demonstrate their support of service in the National Guard and Reserve by going above and beyond statutory requirements of the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-employment Rights Act (USERRA),” Ayers said.

The award is presented each year to a limited number of Illinois organizations that go beyond granting leave for military duty to their National Guard and Reserve employees. DeVry offers an array of programs and support services for employees in the military and their families, including pay supplement and continuation of benefits during active duty time.

“DeVry has a distinguished history of serving the military and Veterans dating back to World War II when we educated U.S. Army Air Corps instructors on electronic devices,” said Daniel Hamburger, DeVry president and chief executive officer. “That service commitment continues today through support of our colleagues who have served and the student Veterans we educate.”

DeVry University national director of military affairs, Jenell Givelber, accepted the award on behalf of DeVry at the Illinois ESGR Annual Employer Awards Ceremony in Lombard, Ill., in January.

“As a Major in the U.S. Army Reserve, I know firsthand the importance of having your employer’s support during active duty time, and afterwards, too,” Givelber said. “Signing the ESGR Statement of Support is a public declaration of something we have been working towards all along, ‘doing well by doing good’ – it’s the motto we live by at DeVry.”
