NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Calpine (NYSE:CPN) hit a new 52-week high Monday as it is currently trading at $20.03, above its previous 52-week high of $20.01 with one million shares traded as of 11:16 a.m. ET. Average volume has been 2.6 million shares over the past 30 days.

Calpine has a market cap of $9.22 billion and is part of the utilities sector and utilities industry. Shares are up 9.2% year to date as of the close of trading on Friday.

Calpine Corporation, an independent wholesale power generation company, owns and operates natural gas-fired and geothermal power plants in North America. It operates natural gas-fired combustion turbines and renewable geothermal conventional steam turbines, as well as cogeneration power plants. The company has a P/E ratio of 110, above the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7.
